Miners bore the brunt of today's selling with Antofagasta, Anglo American, Xstrata, Randgold Resources, Rio Tinto and Vedanta all lower. Platinum refiner Johnson Matthey also came under pressure as the dollar rallied a little. Brewer SABMiller cheered the market with better than expected interim results. The Miller Lite and Peroni brewer reported a 1% fall in lager volumes over the six months to September 30 as growth in Africa and Asia was offset by weakness in more developed markets. Merrill Lynch, though was not impressed.'We do not believe the market will upgrade EBITA [earnings before interest, tax and amortisation] materially for 2010, but earnings certainly have scope for upside depending on the guidance on full year interest and tax guidance,' the US broker reckons. 'Based on our price objective of 1750p we have a underperform rating on SABMiller,' the broker concludes. Merger speculation drove household goods firm Reckitt Benckiser higher. The Dettol and Cillit Bang maker is rumoured to be in merger talks with US peer Colgate-Palmolive.FTSE 100 - RisersSABMiller (SAB) 1,714.00p +3.44%Reckitt Benckiser Group (RB.) 3,140.00p +1.13%National Grid (NG.) 645.50p +0.86%Resolution (RSL) 90.30p +0.73%Lloyds Banking Group (LLOY) 89.94p +0.42%Tesco (TSCO) 424.80p +0.34%Centrica (CNA) 257.30p +0.23%Morrison (Wm) Supermarkets (MRW) 280.90p 0.00%Smith & Nephew (SN.) 574.00p 0.00%AstraZeneca (AZN) 2,706.50p -0.07%FTSE 100 - FallersAntofagasta (ANTO) 890.50p -5.37%Fresnillo (FRES) 871.50p -5.27%Xstrata (XTA) 1,070.00p -5.06%Johnson Matthey (JMAT) 1,549.00p -4.38%Kazakhmys (KAZ) 1,273.00p -4.07%Wolseley (WOS) 1,270.00p -4.01%Anglo American (AAL) 2,527.00p -3.92%Rio Tinto (RIO) 3,184.00p -3.81%Eurasian Natural Resources (ENRC) 868.50p -3.61%Lonmin (LMI) 1,685.00p -3.38%FTSE 250 - RisersHeritage Oil (HOIL) 483.00p +3.21%IG Group Holdings (IGG) 332.70p +2.56%Synergy Healthcare (SYR) 646.50p +2.29%888 Holdings (888) 109.40p +2.24%Telecity Group (TCY) 332.50p +1.96%Robert Wiseman (RWD) 491.80p +1.95%Hikma Pharmaceuticals (HIK) 506.50p +1.91%Cranswick (CWK) 749.00p +1.90%SSL International (SSL) 676.50p +1.50%National Express Group (NEX) 341.00p +1.22%FTSE 250 - FallersDaejan Holdings (DJAN) 2,752.00p -9.77%Renishaw (RSW) 485.00p -7.18%ARM Holdings (ARM) 156.00p -6.87%Morgan Crucible (MGCR) 166.30p -6.78%CSR (CSR) 434.40p -6.68%Aveva Group (AVV) 959.00p -6.62%Melrose Resources (MRS) 333.00p -6.54%Aegis Group (AGS) 108.50p -6.47%Regus (RGU) 97.05p -6.23%Grainger (GRI) 260.00p -6.20%FTSE TechMARK - RisersRenovo Group (RNVO) 25.25p +5.21%Antisoma (ASM) 31.50p +3.28%Vernalis (VER) 85.00p +3.03%Trafficmaster (TFC) 30.75p +2.50%Alterian (ALN) 212.00p +2.42%Optos (OPTS) 95.00p +2.15%ProStrakan (PSK) 105.50p +1.69%Alphameric (ALM) 30.75p +1.65%RM Group (RM.) 152.50p +1.50%Phytopharm (PYM) 17.00p +1.49%FTSE TechMARK - FallersPsion (PON) 95.50p -16.59%AEA Technology (AAT) 28.00p -8.20%Innovation Group (TIG) 12.00p -4.00%Ark Therapeutics (AKT) 36.00p -3.36%SDL International (SDL) 378.00p -2.64%Ricardo Group (RCDO) 243.00p -2.51%NCC Group (NCC) 395.50p -2.35%Oxford Biomedica (OXB) 13.25p -1.85%Consort Medical (CSRT) 402.50p -1.83%Wolfson Microelectronics (WLF) 118.75p -1.25%
