Shares going ex-dividend dominate the fallers in the Footsie today. British American Tobacco is the biggest faller but the share price has declined by slightly less than the 81p a share final dividend. Standard Chartered has fallen by more than its 29.8p a share dividend. Miner BHP Billiton has fallen by double its 29.38p a share dividend as other miners are also in decline. Africa-focused oil company Tullow Oil has fallen in price even though profits in 2010 were broadly in line with expectations. Profit before tax soared to $152m from $33m in 2009 and rose 137% to $73m after taxes. Sales revenue was 19% better at $1.09bn. Broker finnCap is concerned about political risk and how material the wells the company is drilling will be. Insurer Prudential is higher after saying it made 20% more in 2010 than it did in 2009 as Asia became the UK company's biggest earner. Group operating profit before tax on a European Embedded Value (EEV) basis jumped to £3.7bn in 2010 from £3.09bn the year before. Investors' were reassured by Randgold Resources when it said that despite the continuing political impasse in the Côte d'Ivoire, its recently commissioned mine at Tongon is still operating to plan.Daimler and Rolls-Royce will offer shareholders in German-listed engineer Tognum €24 per share in cash representing a total consideration of approximately €3.2bn, about 30% above Friday's closing price.
