Disappointing economic figures in China have knocked markets around the world and the Footsie's high concentration of mining companies has made the drop worse. China's April growth rate has been downgraded by US based research group the Conference Board. There are no risers in the Footsie. Nine out of the worst ten performers are miners. They include Xstrata, where one of the company's senior managers Peet Nienaber sold 45,000 shares at CHF17.25 each. That raised around £500,000. The exception is oilfield services provider Petrofac. Last week, Petrofac said that it is on track to meet full-year expectations and it is making good progress on the first phase of its Turkmenistan project. The order book should be worth $6.9bn at the end of June.
