FTSE 100 movers: BSkyB jumps on strong H1 revenue

Satellite broadcaster BSkyB was in the lead after an eight per cent rise in revenue in the first half, helped by strong growth in paid-for subscription products. The group said revenue in the six months to December 31st rose to £3.75bn as sales of paid-for subscription products rose 42% during the half year. It increased the interim dividend by 9% to 12p, which, according to analysts at Jefferies, underlined management's confidence in its growth outlook.Sector peers IAG and easyJet were both strong risers this afternoon. Budget airline easyJet was in part helped higher by reports its ski traffic had jumped 20% in the past five years, while the group also announced its plan to cancel its Gatwick-Amman route in May. Investors at oil major Royal Dutch Shell showed their approval of the company's decision to undergo a major restructuring to boost capital and cut costs after it reported a sharp fall in fourth-quarter earnings. Heading the other way was spirits manufacturer Diageo, which took a hit from weakness in emerging markets as it revealed that global sales growth was limited to just 1.8% in the first half, below analysts' forecasts. Lager giant SABMiller was also unwanted after part-owner Altria Group reported a decline in earnings for both the full-year and the final quarter. Miners Fresnillo and Randgold Resources were both tracking precious metal prices lower.
