Precious metals group Fresnillo has announced that Lord Simon Cairns, Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, will step down from the board next month.Cairns, 73, who has been with the miner for six years, will stand down at the company's annual general meeting (AGM), scheduled for May 16th.The former investment banker and ex-Chairman of British American Tobacco and Allied Zurich, is also currently the Chairman of Fresnillo's Remuneration Committee."I should like to take this opportunity to thank Lord Cairns for his significant contribution to the board over the past six years. His wisdom and support have been invaluable," said Chairman Alberto Baillères.Fresnillo's board will nominate Charles Jacobs, a corporate lawyer with experience in the mining sector, as its new Independent Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Remuneration Committee at the upcoming AGM.The miner also said that Guy Wilson will also be appointed Senior Independent Non-Executive Director.BC
