Wireless technology innovator Cyan Holdings has formed a partnership in Brazil with a local technology company to sell automated electricity meter reading (AMR) products and services. Cyan has teamed up with systems integrator Nobre de la Torre to collaborate on the development, supply and system integration of Cyan's CyLec smart metering solution in Brazil. The pair will jointly develop hardware and software solutions for the Brazilian energy market, with Nobre agreeing to promote CyLec and arrange two initial smart metering pilot studies to be carried out with Brazilian electricity distribution companies.Nobre Executive Director, João Nelson C de la Torre, said: "Demand is rapidly growing for smart metering solutions in Brazil. We conducted a thorough review of the smart metering industry and were delighted with Cyan's technology." He added that the company, which has a strong history within the automated meter reading industry in Latin America, was confident it could offer a compelling proposition that will allow the partnership to be one of the largest AMR and advanced meter infrastructure providers in Brazil.Cyan implied Brazil was ripe for its smart metering technology as large parts of the energy market suffered from 'stolen' electricity, reaching as much as 20% of total electricity output in some areas. Shares in Cyan were up 6.1% to 0.52p at 13:38 on Wednesday. OH
