Sausages, bacon and pork specialist Cranswick piled on the sales in the run-up to Christmas with total turnover up by 31% to £200m.Organic growth from the underlying business in the three months to December was 17%, with 14% growth from CCF Norfolk, acquired in June 2009. All its products were strong, Cranswick said. Sales of fresh pork jumped by 70%, including CCF Norfolk's contribution. Bacon sales were up by 61% while sales of sausages, cooked meats and continental products increased by 21%, 17% and 9% respectively. Sandwich sales recovered strongly, as anticipated, and were ahead of the same period last year by 16%.Operating margin in the underlying business was maintained at a level similar to that achieved in the first half of the year, whilst progress continues to be made in driving through operational efficiencies at the CCF Norfolk site.
