Cornish departs United Utilities to run Manchester Airport

Charlie Cornish is leaving the United Utilities board after more than six years to run Manchester Airport for a rumoured £500,000-a-year.The 49-year-old Managing Director Utility Solutions, who joined the utility giant's board at the start of 2004, will leave later this year.His departure follows last week's sale of the company's non-regulated interests in the UK and Europe to Veolia Water UK for £174.2m. "Charlie has been an important part of our work to improve operational performance and more recently has been integral in successfully agreeing the disposals of a number of our non-regulated businesses," said UU's Philip Green. Cornish was once chief operating officer at Thames Water UK and Ireland and chief executive of West of Scotland Water Authority. He's also worked at British Aerospace, Associated British Foods and the NHS.
