Mark Hodges, the former board member and head of UK operations at Aviva, has been named as the new managing director at British Gas, owner Centrica said on Tuesday.The appointee, who will take up his new responsibilities on 1 June, will also join the Centrica board.Hodges, who spent over 20 years with Norwich Union and Aviva, and most recently worked as chief executive for insurance broker Towergate Partnership, is said to bring a "strong understanding of the UK consumer market and a track record in improving business performance", Centrica said.The group's chief executive Iain Conn said he was "delighted" that Hodges would be joining."He brings substantial experience of running a major UK customer facing business and has a strong track record in improving customer service, increasing performance and driving growth through innovation," he said."British Gas will benefit significantly from these capabilities."Ian Peters, currently running as interim managing director at British Gas, will remain with Centrica and take on the role of director of customer facing strategy.
