Capita buys helpdesk firm

Outsourcing giant Capita has spent some of its pocket money on telephone helpdesk firm FirstAssist Services.The blue chip company, which used to run the London congestion charge scheme, is paying £12.5m in cash for the business that works for both public and private sector organisations.Customers include Royal Sun Alliance, Lloyds Bank and Standard Life, and it also acts on behalf of the Legal Services Commission to assess litigants' entitlement to legal aid.In 2009, the group made an operating profit of £1.7m on turnover of £17.9m. It houses about 360 staff, many of them lawyers, professional counsellors, doctors and nurses. in offices in Leicestershire and Surrey."The acquisition of FSL will broaden the service we provide, enabling us to offer a comprehensive and enhanced package of health and workforce management related services to new and existing clients," Capita chief Paul Pindar said.
