(Sharecast News) - The cyber attack on British Airways affected even more customers than initially reported, with parent company IAG revealing that an extra 185,000 customers had been told their card details had been compromised. The company said it was updating customers on Thursday with further information regarding their situation as it concludes the internal investigation. The hackers obtained access to the name, billing address, email address, card payment information, including card number, expiry date and CVV code for the cards of 77,000 customers. On top of this, the owners of 108,000 cards were also contacted, though the hackers were not able to acquire the CVV code.Only customers who made reward bookings using a payment card between April 21 and July 28 were among the potential affected, British Airways said."While British Airways does not have conclusive evidence that the data was removed from its systems, it is taking a prudent approach in notifying potentially affected customers, advising them to contact their bank or card provider as a precaution."Although, on a more positive note, the company said in September when it originally announced the hack it had identified around 380,000 payment cards in danger of the breach, but the investigation has found that overall this number has been reduced to 244,000.BA faces a possible fine of around £500m over the breach, with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) also investigating the incident.
