BP re-attaches cap on blow-out well

Oil company BP said the lower marine riser package (LMRP) cap containment system was successfully re-attached on its blow-out well in the Gulf of Mexico.Yesterday, oil spewed uncontrolled back into the Gulf of Mexico after the cap containing the spill was removed because fluid seemed to be leaking.But the group said the containment cap was "reinstalled on the Deepwater Horizon's failed blow-out preventer (BOP)" at around 1830 CDT on June 23 and the system resumed collecting oil at 1900.The cap containment system was moved at approximately 0845 on June 23 after an underwater robot collided with it, forcing engineers to take it off and check the damage. "Capture of oil and gas through the BOP's choke line via a manifold to the Q4000 vessel on the surface has continued uninterrupted throughout the day," said BP.Meanwhile, the New York State Common Retirement Fund - the third largest public pension fund in the US - has initiated a class action suit against BP for losses incurred due to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
