BP: 8,340 Barrels Of Oil Collected Over First Half Of July 5

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--BP PLC (BP) said it recovered 12,435 barrels of crude oil from its leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico during the first half of Monday, in line with previous collection rates. Between midnight and noon, 8,340 barrels were captured and stored aboard the Discoverer Enterprise vessel. Another 4,095 barrels were flared off aboard the Q4000 vessel, according to an operational update on BP's Web site. A total of 56.9 million cubic feet of natural gas was also flared. Crude oil began spewing into the Gulf in what has become one of the largest oil spills in U.S. history following an April 20 blast on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, owned by Transocean Ltd. (RIG). Eleven workers were killed in the explosion.
