(Sharecast News) - BlueRock Diamonds, which owns and operates the Kareevlei Diamond Mine in the Kimberley region of South Africa, announced the discovery of an 11.95 carat stone on Tuesday.

The AIM-traded firm said the stone would go to tender later in the week.

It said it had an expected valuation of more than $0.1m (£0.07m).

"This is another excellent discovery that underpins Kareevlei's ability to deliver large high value diamonds," said executive chairman Mike Houston.

"Given the stone's size and quality and continuing market buoyancy we look forward to the upcoming tender to build on the success of the January sales, which achieved an average price of $565 per carat," Houston added.

By comparison, the average sales price recorded for 2021 was $465 per carat.

At 1317 GMT, shares in BlueRock Diamonds were up 3.455% at 45p.
