SYDNEY (Dow Jones)--The Australian government could announce progress on development of Queensland's coal-seam gas industry during a visit by Chinese customers in coming days, the Australian newspaper reported Saturday, without citing its sources. The newspaper also quoted an memorandum to members of the Minerals Council of Australia from BHP Biliton (BHP.AU), Rio Tinto (RIO.AU) and Xstrata seeking to reassure other mining companies they aren't seeking an exclusive deal with the government over its proposed new resources tax, and are acting for the interests of the industry as a whole. -By Enda Curran, Dow Jones Newswires; 61-2-8272-4687; [email protected] (END) Dow Jones Newswires June 18, 2010 22:07 ET (02:07 GMT)
