Antofagasta's Chief Executive Officer, Marcelo Awad, has resigned his position with immediate effect. The mining firm said that until a successor is appointed, Chairman Jean-Paul Luksic will assume the CEO responsibilities on an interim basis. Luksic released a statement saying the group "will continue to pursue our current strategy of growth, supported by our strong financial position and low-cost and profitable operations" and added that it believes that its preliminary results will be in line with market expectations.Awad, who took up the role of CEO in 2004, has not given a reason for his departure.
