Anglo American to sell Callide coal mine

Mining heavyweight Anglo American has puts its Callide thermal coal mine up for sale.The mine in Central Queensland, a low cost coal producer, will go as part of Anglo's focus on growing its metallurgical coal and high margin export thermal coal businesses.It mostly supplies domestic power stations in Queensland, producing 8.8m tonnes of thermal coal in 2009 and possessing expansion potential from its resource base of more than 1bn tonnes."Anglo American sees an exciting opportunity for investors to expand the Callide business," said Seamus French, head of Anglo's metallurgical coal business.
