Agri-business boom for Origin

Food and agricultural products supplier Origin Enterprises says that farm incomes are getting a boost and this means that it is set for a stronger performance in 2011. Ireland-based origin is quoted on AIM and its Irish Stock Exchange counterpart the ESM. Revenues are 5% ahead at €340.6m in the first quarter. Agri-Services had a strong quarter, as did the joint venture supplying marine proteins and oils. Agri-Services revenues grew by 21% to €306m.Origin plans to merge its Republic of Ireland feed business with W & R Barnett's feed business in Northern Ireland. The deal needs clearance from the Irish Competition Authority. The food division is suffering from tough market conditions and revenues more than halved to €34.6m, which reflects the winding down of the Masterfoods contract.
