Shares in fuel cell developer AFC Energy jumped 10.7% after signing a binding letter of intent (LOI) to develop fuel cell power stations with Powerfuel and B9 Coal. The stations will be powered by surface coal gasification and/or natural gas, and will include low-cost carbon capture and storage (CCS).The first demonstration power station is expected to be located at the Hatfield Colliery site near Doncaster.B9 Coal will be responsible for financing the building and operation of the station which will combine AFC's fuel cell system with fuel processing and CCS technologies via Powerfuel.Alisa Murphy, director of B9 Coal, commented that 'together we believe that we can offer a technically advanced solution to the problem of rising carbon emissions, as well as a practical and commercial template for clean energy generation.'
