High street baby clothes and products retailer Mothercare could cut as many as 500 jobs, according to reports.Restructuring plans leaked to The Times say that the positions to be axed would be among customer service advisers. The speculation comes after the company reported last month that adjusted pre-tax losses widened by 10% to £26.3m in the year to March 29th. Meanwhile, it was revealed that Simon Calver would resign as Chief Executive immediately after less than two years in the job.According to the UK paper, the restructuring plans say that Mothercare should modernise to attract more customers, deliver cost efficiencies and "become profitable again".The retailer, which as 220 stores in the UK, is considering scaling back the hours of 500 staff who work more than 24 hours a week. Those who do not accept the new terms will be made redundant, the plans suggested. However, the company is looking to employ 200 new sales assistants on a part-time basis to increase its presence on shop floors during peak trading hours.
