Wizz Air January passenger numbers up 10%

(Sharecast News) - European low cost airline Wizz Air said January passenger numbers soared 10% year on year to 2.56m.The load factor rose 0.4 percentage points to 88.1, while capacity increased 9.5% to 2.9m seats.In the year to end-January 2019 the airline had sold 34m tickets, an increase of 18.5%. The load factor was up 1.1% to 92.4% during the same period.Wizz last week reported a sharp drop in profits in the three months to end-December as the budget central and eastern Europe airline's faster sales growth was met with ever mounting costs.Profit for the period sank almost 90% to €1.7m as operating expenses rose almost 26% to €512.7m, with the most notable increases being staff costs and fuel costs both up 40%.
