Week Ahead: Wolseley, Domino's Pizza

Next week has a bit of a foody feel to it, with contract caterer Compass, pizza delivery firm Domino's and milk and cheese producer Dairy Crest all set to update the market. Plumbing and heating products merchant Wolseley kicks the week off, however, with results for the year to the end of July. Market consensus is for profit before tax of £226m on sales of £13.1bn, though the presence of exceptional items on the profit and loss account as the company continues with its restructuring programme means the profit figure is open to interpretation; Charles Stanley, for instance, is going with a figure of £331m. Wolseley itself said back in May that group trading profit for the year to 31 July 2010 is expected to exceed what at the time was the analysts' consensus forecast of £374m."Recent softening in housing markets in the US and UK is not helpful but the key performance indicators for Wolseley will be the outlook for gross margin and the outlook for returns as the new team is applying more rigour to capital allocation," reckons Charles Stanley analyst Tony Shepard.Shares in pizza delivery firm Domino's Pizza have proved as popular with investors as the company's pizzas have with couch potatoes. The shares are up by two-thirds over the last year as the company has kept up its frenetic growth rate though the recent sale of 2m shares at 470p a time by director Nigel Wray may suggest that even the directors have been surprised by the company's strength throughout the recession.
