Week Ahead: BP, Shell, US non-farm payrolls

There are some big guns releasing results next week, including oil giants BP and Royal Dutch Shell, pharmaceuticals titan GlaxoSmithKline and household goods and foods leviathan Unilever .It's also a big week for economic announcements, with the European Central Bank (ECB) set to announce its interest rate decision while on Friday the first big set of economic data of the new month, US non-farm payrolls, is released.For BP, Tuesday's results should be another step in the company's recovery from being the world's most vilified company, though the company remains pretty unpopular in certain parts of Russia; its Russian joint venture partners TNK-BP are seething at being left out in the cold when the British company signed a £10bn arctic exploration tie-up with Kremlin-backed Rosneft.. Income investors will be keen to learn the size of the quarterly dividend; the company suspended dividend payments at the time of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill crisis, but has pledged to resume payments this year. Charles Stanley thinks the quarterly dividend will be restored at half of last year's fourth quarter level of 14 cents, i.e. 7 cents per share.Long time rival Royal Dutch Shell declares fourth quarter results two days after BP. Charles Stanley has pencilled in $5bn for net income, up from $2.8bn the year before.
