Tullow Oil is set to resume operations in Block 10BB and Block 13T in northern Kenya on Friday (November 8th) after completing discussions with government and the local community. The group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Minister for Energy, under which a clear plan has been laid out and agreed upon in order to ensure that operations can continue without disruption in the future.Tullow said that through the MoU is has "re-affirmed its commitment to local employment, local opportunities and transparency throughout its operations in northern Kenya". "As Tullow's exploration campaign progresses and gathers pace, the number of local employees and local companies involved in our work will continue to grow," it added. The suspension of operations was announced on October 28th as a "precautionary measure" following demonstrations by local people regarding concerns around employment.NR
