Embattled Japanese car maker Toyota has run into more trouble in the US and has suspended sales of its luxury gas guzzler, the Lexus GX460, after Consumer Reports magazine advised its readers not to buy the sports utility vehicle (SUV).The magazine criticised the performance of the GX460, saying the slow response of the car's electronic stability control system could put the driver and passengers in danger.Toyota said it would try to duplicate the findings of Consumer Reports' testing and in the meantime it had asked its dealers to suspend sales of the 2010 model. The company stressed, however, that the vehicle met or exceeded all of the government's testing requirements. The controversy is the latest in a long line of embarrassing product problems in the US for the Japanese car giant. Since November the company has recalled more than 8m vehicles to test for potential problems with sticky accelerator pedals and spongy braking systems.
