Dialight says it will make higher than expected earnings in 2009. The light emitting diodes technology developer had already said that earnings would be better than expected last December and this latest announcement has sparked a further upgrade.Dialight generated more revenues from obstruction lighting, European traffic lights and indication components. Cost cutting improved margins.House broker Canaccord Adams initially increased its 2009 pre-tax profit forecast from £4.2m to £4.5m, while the 2010 figure was raised from £7.4m to £8m. The latest trading statement has sparked a further profit upgrade to £5.2m in 2009. The new forecast for 2010 is £8.4m. Full year figures will be published on 3 March. Defence technology developer QinetiQ says that delayed orders mean that the second half of the year to March 2010 will not be seasonally stronger than the first as is normally the case. UK and US governments have delayed orders. The US has not clarified the position on survivability products and unmanned ground vehicles so orders are unlikely before the end of March. Broker Investec plans to cut its earnings per share forecast by one-fifth to around 11p a share. Net debt was £509m at the end of 2009.
