GlaxoSmithKline is lower after the British Medical Journal said that its diabetes drug Avandia should be withdrawn from sale. According to the BMJ, in July the Commission on Human Medicines advised the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency to withdraw Avandia from sale because its risks outweigh its benefits. Avandia, also known as rosiglitazone, is thought to lead to heart problems. Sales have the drug have already slumped because of negative studies in the US. Second quarter revenues were £152m. GlaxoSmithKline rejects the claims.
