Study: BP Well Spewing 25,000 To 30,000 Barrels A Day -WP

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES BP PLC's (BP, BP.LN) ruptured oil well in the Gulf of Mexico has been gushing 25,000 to 30,000 barrels of oil each day since its blowout April 20, according to study by scientists commissioned by the U.S. government, the Washington Post reports Thursday on its website. On May 27, the scientists, led by the U.S. Geological Survey, in preliminary findings estimated that 12,000 to 19,000 barrels a day were gushing into the Gulf, Dow Jones Newswires reported. According to the latest study, the well has spewed about 1.3 million to 1.5 million barrels (53.6 million to 64.3 million gallons) of oil into the water. That is five to six times the total amount spilled in the 1989 Exxon Valdez disaster in Alaska, the Post says. The U.S. Geological Survey will make an official announcement about the study soon.
