By Kejal Vyas Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Barclays Capital, a unit of Barclays PLC (BCS, BARC.LN), has hired a former Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS) managing director for its investment-banking division in Sao Paulo as the company looks to expand its reach in the growing Brazilian market. Ana Cabral-Gardner will be in charge of delivering Barclays' investment-banking services to clients in the retail, consumer and health-care sectors, the bank said Wednesday in a statement. She will report to Alceu Lima, head of investment banking in Brazil. Previously, Cabral-Gardner worked at Goldman Sachs, starting in 2007, and served as head of Latin America equity capital markets. She held a similar position at Credit Suisse Group's (CS) Sao Paulo office before that. The appointment is part of a broader move by Barclays to increase its presence in Latin America, a goal the bank has targeted since its acquisition of Lehman Brothers in September 2008. Over the last year, Barclays has been adding to its equity sales and research team in the region. -By Kejal Vyas, Dow Jones Newswires; 212-416-2185;
