Australia's Seeing Machines has won its biggest deal with the mining industry so far after selling its Driver State Sensor (DSS) computer vision product suite to BHP Billiton. The mining giant's Navajo Coal Company and San Juan Coal Company units will fit their entire haul truck fleet and a number of ancillary vehicles with the group's technology.Drivers will be directly monitored for distraction and fatigue by the DSS active system, which can prevent accidents with audio alarms or seat vibrations if a problem is identified.AIM-listed Seeing Machines says the installation at the New Mexico mines will be completed next month. It's also in talks with BHP Billiton Energy Coal about further deployments of the DSS across other mines at the company's coal business. "We are very pleased to be working with BHP Billiton on such a significant contract for Seeing Machines," said chief executive Nick Cerneaz."We believe this deal with BHP Billiton, and other recent announcements are indicative of the huge potential growth opportunities for our DSS business in the mining sector."
