Sector movers: Oil stocks up ahead of results

Oil giants BP and BG group are helping lift the sector ahead of their third quarter results tomorrow and on Wednesday respectively.Among smaller companies, Europa Oil and Gas is posting good gains after saying the opportunity to drill its Hykeham-1 exploration well near Lincoln had arisen earlier than expected.The well is expected to be completed by early December, the firm said.However, oil and gas equipment and services stocks are lower after the gas storage group Portland Gas reported a pre-tax loss of £1.3m for the year ended 31 July compared with a loss of £1.6m the same time a year earlier.
