Rolls-Royce bags more big orders

Engineering heavyweight Rolls-Royce said it has won a 880m dollar order for its Trent XWB engines with United Airlines and a 1.4bn dollar order with Philippine Airlines to deliver Trent 700 engines.Earlier this week Rolls Royce announced deals with Air Lease Corporation and Air France. The United Airline agreement includes a long term TotalCare services agreement, Rolls Royce explained. In addition the airline will convert 25 A350-900 aircraft, which were previously announced in 2009, to the -1000 model. Senior Vice President at Rolls Royce Civil Large Engines Jacqui Sutton said: "This latest order from United Airlines for our world-leading Trent engine technology underscores our confidence in the A350-1000 and the higher thrust version of the Trent XWB which will power this aircraft. We look forward to expanding our relationship with the airline." The Trent XWB, specifically designed for the Airbus A350 XWB, is the fastest selling Trent engine, with more than 1,300 already sold. Meanwhile Rolls-Royce confirmed that it has also been selected by Philippine Airlines to deliver Trent 700 engines, worth $1.4bn at list prices, to power 20 Airbus A330 aircraft.This is the first selection of Trent engines by Philippine Airlines and also includes long-term TotalCare service support, Rolls Royce confirmed.Philippine Airlines President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon Ang commented: "After a thorough evaluation of our options, the Trent 700 is the best solution for our fleet expansion. The engine will provide market-leading environmental performance, with low emissions, noise and fuel burn."CJ
