(Sharecast News) - Agriculture-focussed biological products supplier Plant Health Care announced a trials agreement with Agrii UK, under which Agrii will evaluate Plant's novel 'PREtec' technology.

The AIM-traded firm said its preliminary studies indicated promising results with PREtec products in potatoes, resulting in improved potato quality and yield, with "significantly lower" environmental impact than many agrochemical treatments.

It said Agrii would now conduct field trials of PREtec products on UK potatoes, in combination with a novel Agrii fertiliser blend.

If the trials proved successful, Plant and Agrii would, subject to regulatory and other approvals, look at opportunities to bring the product to market in 2023.

The board described Agrii as a "leading provider" of crop inputs, agronomy advice and services to arable, fruit and vegetable growers in the UK.

"Plant Health Care has had a long-term successful relationship with Agrii for the distribution of our 'ProAct' product," siad chief executive officer Jeff Tweedy.

"I am very pleased now to continue the relationship to include trials for PREtec-based fertiliser products and explore the full potential of this new opportunity with a leading distributor in the agriculture sector in the UK."

At 0938 BST, shares in Plant Health Care were down 0.6% at 10.86p.
