Pennon pressing on with energy from waste project

Water group Pennon said trading has been in line with management expectations since March 31.Its South West Water division has "a solid platform in place for continued success during the current regulatory period (K5, 2010 - 2015)," having successfully completed the K4 regulatory contract, the company said.In spite of the dry spring, the company is confident that there are unlikely to be water restrictions in the South West of England this year.As for the Viridor unit, the group is confident it will delivery full year growth in profit before tax.Viridor has decided in principle to proceed with the financing, construction and operation of a 350,000 tonne Energy from Waste plant in Cardiff. The new project will provide a robust and deliverable bid for Prosiect Gwrydd (Project Green), a South Wales local authority consortium residual waste procurement. --jh
