Meggitt wins $35m Canadian defence contract

(ShareCast News) - Aerospace component maker Meggitt said it has won a $35m contract for surface and aerial targets from Canadian Department of National Defence.The five year deal includes provisions for two option years. The majority of the targets will be manufactured at the company's facility in Medicine Hat, Alberta with production deliveries expected this year. The target systems, to be built by Meggitt Target Systems (MTAS) selected include Hammerhead, an advanced, unmanned surface vehicle target that can form part of a swarm threat simulation of up to 16 vessels, and Vindicator, an aerial target that can present the appearance of various aircraft profiles to radar, for naval weapons development and personnel training. MTAS Managing Director, Peter Longstaff commented: "The Canadian Armed Forces are a longstanding user of Meggitt target systems and we are delighted to be able to support their training and test and evaluation requirements locally."
