Sir Julian Horn-Smith has joined banknote printer De La Rue as a non-executive director, the same position he currently holds at part-nationalised lender Lloyds Banking.The 60-year-old was also a key figure in the rise of Vodafone, beginning his stint at the mobile phone colossus in 1984 and ending it in July 2006 as deputy chief executive.As well as advising Swiss bank UBS, Horn-Smith was chairman of business software company Sage Group from September 2006 to April 2007.'Sir Julian has had an impressive career and brings with him extensive international experience of the private and public sectors,' said De La Rue chairman Nicholas Brookes. 'He will make a valuable contribution to the board and the strategic direction of the group.'In July, De La Rue said first quarter trading had been in line with expectations. 'Overall our expectations for the full year 2009/2010 remain unchanged, underpinned by the continued good order book coverage in currency,' Brookes said at the time.
