GlaxoSmithKline has appointed Simon Dingermans of Goldman Sachs to replace Julian Heslop as finance director when he leaves next year. Heslop has announced his intention to retire at the end of March 2011. Dingermans will join the board as chief finance officer designate at the beginning of 2011 so there will be nearly three months overlap between the two men. Dingermans has recently been boss of Goldman Sachs' European M&A business and has been involved in a number of sectors in his 25 years as an investment banker. GSK chief executive Andrew Witty says that Dingermans will help the pharma company to grow organically and via bolt-on acquisitions. He will also be responsible for delivering cost savings.
