Broadband satellite operator Avanti Communications has won two contracts from the UK government.The first contract has been awarded by the Technology Strategy Board and is a project to investigate technologies that can be integrated with Customer Premises Equipment to support emerging applications and next generation broadband services.The second contract is to prepare for larger scale deployment of satellite backhaul for mobile broadband access outside of city and suburban areas. The project will build on technology trials previously performed in Northern Ireland.Additionally, a consortium which includes Avanti, the University of Bologna and the DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation, has been chosen by the European Space Agency to support the standardisation activities of the next generation of the DVB Return Channel via Satellite standard (DVB-RCS NG)/The aim of the new standard is to improve interoperability of satellite broadband services.
