Engineering and software group Invensys found itself in last place following a profit warning. A disappointing 12 months has got a lot worse as the company issued a warning on profits after uncovering a number of problems with the delivery of contracted work. Shares dropped nearly 21% after the company said that a number of operational issues relating to certain projects within Invensys Operations Management and Invensys Rail will put a dent in operating profits. Instrumentation and controls company Spectris soared into the top spot after it notched up record sales and operating profit in 2011, helped by useful contributions from recent acquisitions. Military equipment maker Chemring rose after being awarded further contracts worth €38m for the delivery of 81mm pyrotechnic illumination mortar rounds. Existing contracts with awarded to the firm's Italian subsidiary, Simmel Difesa, which were previously valued at €24.5m, will now be adjusted and extended bringing the total replacement contracts to €62.5m. These will be delivered before 2014. Balfour Beatty also rose after securing contracts with Network Rail.
