This follows Tesco's full year results announcement. Underlying profit rose by 10% to just shy of £3.4bn, with pre-tax profits coming in at £3.18bn, up 10%. The dividend for the year rises by 9% to 13.05p a share."Our positions in international markets and non-food meant we faced strong headwinds when the downturn came but it will be these parts of our business which will grow fastest as the recovery strengthens," chief executive Terry Leahy said. There was a more positive reaction to Associated British Foods' interims and brewer SABMiller's trading statement. The Primark clothing chain was once again the star of the show at ABF and helped it to better than expected first-half profits. Group pre-tax profit came in at £330m in the 24 weeks ended 27 February compared with £178m in the first half of last year and better than expectations of around £317m. The food and sugar businesses also showed strong growth in profits. Panmure Gordon has upgraded its full year earnings per share forecast by 6% to 67.5p.
