Xstrata has approved a $1.36bn investment in the development of the Ravensworth North opencast mine in the Upper Hunter Valley of New South Wales, Australia. The mine is expected to eventually produce 8m tonnes per annum of export thermal and semi soft coking coal. First coal is expected to be delivered in July 2012.Supermarkets operator J Sainsbury has risen following Tesco's trading statement, which showed that Sainsbury had the fastest growth in the sector. Plumbing and building supplies retailer Wolseley rose on the back of its trading statement. First quarter trading performance was slightly ahead of expectations with like-for-like growth of 4%.A company majority owned by ICAP boss Michael Spencer is selling 6m shares in the inter-dealer broker. Following the ending of trading yesterday IPGL Ltd, where Michael Spencer and family trusts are majority shareholders, said it is selling the ICAP shares.
