FTSE 100 Movers: Fresnillo sparkles

Soaring precious metals prices boosted both profits and the share price at Mexican silver and gold miner Fresnillo. Total revenue rose to $1.056bn (£644.5m) from $605.7m the previous year in the six months to 30 June, while earnings before interest, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose to $757m from $394.3m. Shares in Hargreaves Lansdown fell sharply after the Financial Services Authority (FSA) published new rules on how financial services companies provide platform services to investors. "We have concluded that all changes proposed in the FSA paper required by 31 December 2012 will require little work for Hargreaves Lansdown to implement and will result in no material impact on our business," the company said. However, shares in the company were down by 9.22% at 526.5p at 12.34pm. Barclays' share price was on the rise after announcing it will cut 3,000 jobs this year, blaming a "lacklustre" economic environment for hitting many of the bank's major markets. The bank has already cut 1,400 positions this year, according to chief executive Bob Diamond.
