Fresnillo reports 10% rise in production

Fresnillo saw quarterly silver production increase by 10% year on year and said it expects production to remain steady in 2010.The miner produced 9.36 million ounces of silver in the three month ended 31 December, though that is down 4% on the previous quarter.In total, attributable silver production for the full year reached a new record of 37.9 million ounces, 8.8% higher than in 2008.'For 2010, silver production is expected to remain steady, while gold production will increase as a result of the start-up of Soledad and Dipolos in January 2010,' said the group.'Exploration continues to be one of the cornerstones of our growth strategy and we have increased our budget accordingly,' chief executive Jaime Lomelín added.
