(Sharecast News) - Aerospace manufacturer Melrose Industries said on Wednesday that the remaining mandatory evacuation zone around its GKN Aerospace facility in Garden Grove, California, had been lifted, following last week's thermal incident that prompted precautionary action by local authorities.
The Orange County Fire Authority announced at 1930 local time on 26 May that the final evacuation orders had been removed, leaving only a small restricted area immediately surrounding the site. Officials also confirmed that no chemical leak had occurred and that there was no risk to the public.
The update follows an incident detected on 21 May involving a storage tank containing methyl methacrylate, a chemical used in aerospace‑grade acrylics. GKN staff took immediate action and notified emergency services, with the fire authority ordering evacuations on 22 May while teams worked to stabilise the facility.
Melrose added that it continued to work with customers and local officials on operational recovery and supply planning.
As of 1000 BST, Melrose shares were down 0.64% at 479.10p.
