Easyjet sees passenger traffic rise 5.5% in October

Low-cost airline Easyjet reported a 5.5% increase in passenger numbers in October, though the annual rate of growth slowed down from previous months.Passenger numbers totalled 5.83m last month, compared with 5.53m in October 2013.Traffic improved by 7.5% year-on-year in September and by 8.4% in August.The figures represent the "number of earned seats flown" whether or not the passenger turns up, given that Easyjet is a no-refund airline.Meanwhile, the load factor - a key measure of how full its planes are - improved by 1.8 percentage points (pp) over the year to 90.9%.On a rolling basis, passenger numbers for the 12 months ending October totalled 65.07m, up 6.6% on the same period last year, while the load factor was up 1.3pp at 90.7%.
