Drilling Panel Co-Chairman Says 'Unlikely' To Lift Ban Early-NYT

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES William K. Reilly, the co-chairman of the bipartisan commission that is studying the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and future offshore drilling, said it was unlikely the panel would recommend lifting the six-month moratorium on deepwater drilling before the commission's report is complete, The New York Times reported Monday. The panel will hold its first formal meeting in mid-July at the earliest, most likely delaying the delivery of its final report into next year, he said. Reilly said lifting the ban would require changes in industry practice and government oversight that can't be done quickly.
