Drilling commences in the Falklands

AIM-quoted Desire Petroleum has shrugged off any political worries concerning Argentina and started drilling its first well offshore of the Falkland Islands this afternoon. The Ocean Guardian drilling rig arrived in Falklands waters last Friday. It started drilling the Liz 14/19-A exploration well at 2.15pm. It will take 30 days to drill the 3,500 metre well so another announcement is likely in a month. AIM-quoted Rockhoppper Exploration has a 7.5% working interest in this well. After the first well is completed, Rockhopper will drill the Sea Lion 14/10-B well on a block in which it owns 100%. This well should also take 30 days.
