Domino's Pizza reported a 10.8 per cent increase in like-for-like sales at its 725 UK stores in the first quarter, driven by improved weather and the success of its Winter Survival meal deal. Last year, the company was affected by snow when sales rose 6.6% at its 670 UK stores but milder winter supported results in the three months to end of March 2014. The slice of sales taken via e-commerce continued to grow with 69.4% of all UK delivered sales now made on the internet, compared to 61.9% last year. In Germany like-for-like sales advanced 3.2% while in Ireland and Switzerland they jumped 3.4% and 1.8% respectively. A gain in like-for-like sales across all the regions boosted system sales by 14.8% to £188.5m. David Wild, Interim Chief Executive Officer, said: "We are pleased with the like-for-like performance in our core UK and return on investment business. "The pipeline and franchisee demand for new stores is healthy. Whilst we expect the number of sites opened in the year to be second half weighted, we remain confident in delivering our target of 40-50 new stores in 2014."In summary, although it is still early and we face some tough comparatives later in the year, the plans we have in place are strong and I look forward with optimism."RD
