Indonesian-focused coal miner Churchill Mining said the initial reserve statement for its East Kutai Coal Project demonstrates it is a ‘world class’ sized project.Using the calculation methods stipulated by the Joint Ore Reserves Committee (JORC), the initial probable in-situ reserve figure for the East Kutai Coal Project (EKCP) has been calculated at 956m tonnes of thermal coal.Churchill has a 75% interest in EKCP, its flagship project in Indonesia. An independent consultant said the project has a comparatively low cumulative average strip ratio of 3.6:1, which should result in excellent project economics, Churchill said. The company is still working on the current feasibility study and other work related to the project, with a number of tenders for production and transport facilities having been issued. All bids are expected to be reviewed by the end of this year so that the feasibility can be completed and the JORC Proven Reserve defined.
