Car sales motor ahead at Caffyns

Car dealer Caffyns reported a rise in new car sales, but said its full-year result would depend on its performance next month, when new car registration plates come out.Caffyns said unit sales of new cars increased 9.8% in the four months to January 31st, although that was slower than the 20.6% rise in the same period a year ago.The group, which has eight franchises at 12 sites in southern England, said its main market in private and small business cars rose 13.6% compared to a 10% rise in the UK new car market as a whole.Caffyns' used car unit sales gained 21% in the period and after-sales revenue lifted 2.6%. Chief Executive Simon Caffyn said: "The improvement in trading as compared to the previous year has continued in the period. The full year out-turn will, as always, be influenced by our performance in the crucial month of March."Shares rose 12.5p or 2.4% to 540p by 08.53 in London.PW
